Spring is my favorite time of the year.

I was born in the Spring,

yet for decades it

seemed as though

Spring was playing

hide and seek with me,

unwilling to be coaxed or persuaded

to appear despite my arduous efforts.

But in the midst of my winter, I learned that

Spring reveals its promise in its own time.

Those moments of uncertainty and feeling

uprooted and drifting in the wind

were actually ordered steps

leading to my awakening.

Through it all, I discovered

that these purposeful pauses are

God's way of building patience

and teaching us to

appreciate

the beauty around us that

we miss when

we are looking down!

A spiritual guide to overcoming STORMS thru Ordered STEPS

Are You a STORM BREAKER

Today, March 1, 2024, marks a pivotal moment in my journey as a psychiatrist and mindset coach. I am thrilled to announce that I will launch my online course and signature program this summer. Stay Tuned!

Although I founded BHETC in 2021 with the intention of launching my signature coaching and consultant program for mental health equity for women of color, children, and their communities, my past insecurities fostered by internalized racism and gaslighting in medical training and later in the workplace, caused me to take some detours. Each time I would excel, I was made to feel like I wasn't qualified or experienced enough to be the boss, and the adoption of these limiting beliefs caused me to delay my progress.

In the Spring of 2021, I found myself straddling the fence between two paths: one that embraced the new territory to which God had called me, and another that sought validation in academic environments that had long failed to recognize my expertise and skillset. While I knew deep down that my focus should be on venturing out into this new territory, fear and a desire to prove myself worthy held me back. However, with time and reflection, I was able to overcome these obstacles and fully commit to following God's path for my life. Getting guidance from a village of leaders helped me to gain my confidence, but the real transformation happened when I decided to REST!

Though the decision to chart new territories was difficult, I have no regrets. It helped me grow and become stronger, and I've come to accept that my journey was transformational. Yours will be too!

Gratitude for the Journey and the Tribe of Supportive Champions in my Village

There are countless health providers who have supported me along the way and are soul-aligned to the mission to achieve health equity for US all.

I am grateful for the guidance of Dr. Uché Blackstock, CEO and Founder of Advancing Health Equity. In a few health equity coaching sessions, she advised me against pursuing a leadership career in academic work environments. We discussed the challenges faced by women of color hired to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts but excluded from decision-making processes.

Dr. Rupinder Legha encouraged me to prioritize rest and healing throughout our collaboration. Together, we strive to foster a new era of scholarly work that embraces antiracism and protects minoritized youth.

Dr. Ruth Shim inspired me to shift my focus to people and places that prioritize structural and social justice in healthcare.

Dr. Tiffany Beason and Dr. Anique Forrester helped me feel seen and heard as I made the difficult decision to leave academia and pursue my dreams.

Dr. Michael Flaum shared his journey of becoming a leader with a vision and provided a validating environment to cope with feeling invisible in academic settings.

Lastly, I am grateful for the decision to get a business coach, Dr. Tilean Gordon, as I relaunch my company with new content that encourages other BIPOC women health professionals to stay connected to their inner compass and be soul-aligned in their pursuits and endeavors.

Spring is almost here and Summer awaits....

My mission is to help individuals embrace their ORDERED STEPS. I'm here to build a team and community for women of color who are accountable to their vision. It's the most important investment we can make in ourselves!
